Night market is always the choice for dinner in Taiwan! Fengjia Night Market (逢甲夜市) is one of the night markets you should never miss when you are in Taichung. Look at the crowd, but this will never stop us for food hunting.
Majority of the night market foods looked yummy but we wonder whether we have the tummy space to try them all. These are some of the must-try foods that we will recommend in Fengjia Night Market.
Small Sausage in Large Sausage (官芝霖大腸包小腸) - TWD45 each
The large sausage was made up of sticky rice and it wrapped the Taiwanese pork sausage. This was quite heavy and we will suggest this to be a sharing food.
Lou mei (一中街-北京茶燻) - TWD70
We were not too sure what this food is called in English but we will just refer to it as lou mei. Since we don’t eat duck tongue, chicken claw or other animal stuffs, we took the braised egg, radish and “thousand layer toufu” (千叶豆干). The Taiwanese version of lou mei had some pickled mustard green in it. Yummy!
Fengjia University!
Devil Chicken Chop (恶魔鸡排) - TWD65
The chicken chop was a thick piece of meat coated with a fine thin layer of flour! The meat was really juicy and tender!
Bacon wrap with scallion (香葱肉卷) - TWD150
Super thick layer of meat! Very juicy though and the scallion was a good combination with the meat! Eat it while it is still hot!
Pepper biscuit (帝鈞胡椒餅) - TWD40
From the outside, it looks like Malaysia’s Heong Peah. But, this Taiwanese version had a salty taste and stuffed with meat and scallion. Crispy on the outside and meaty with a little juice on the inside. Definitely a good try!
Minglun Pancake (明倫蛋餅) - TWD40
One of the must try in Fengjia Night Market! This might be the only stall in Taiwan! Super long queue and everyone had a number in their hands! Make sure to get the number from the staffs and be aware of the number shown on the screen. During your turn, you can choose the available sauces such as house sauce (No.1 Hot sauce), soy sauce, pepper and chili powder. You can also mix around with the sauces if you like.
Papaya milk (木瓜牛奶) - TWD55
This shop had a long queue as well and is nearby Minglun Pancake. We would suggest ordering these two at the same time since both will need waiting time.
Other than the Papaya milk, we also went to 7-11 to try another flavor of ChunCuiHe (纯萃喝) - Latte! It was good too. I would say the milk will actually differentiate the flavor of the drink.
Note: Take good care of your belongings when you are ordering or eating! Fengjia Night Market was really super crowded!
