Day 2: Luce Memorial Chapel – Miyahara – Shida Night Market – Ningxia Night Market

Local Taiwanese breakfast to kick off our second day!

This was one of the locals' favorite breakfast place.

We ordered their signature toast with meat and egg, Taiwanese pancake and soy milk. This breakfast for two only cost us TWD75. It was really cheap!

Xie Early Curd Stores (谢氏早点 。豆花专卖店)
Address: No. 136, Jiguang St, Central district, Taichung City. (台中市中區繼光街136號)
Operating hours: 5.00am - 12.00pm

There were YouBikes everywhere but we still took the bus to enjoy the complimentary first 10km!

With the yummy breakfast, we managed to recharge our energy. We took the No.305 Bus to Tunghai University (东海大学). Their campus was extremely big!

We were not there to visit their campus but to visit Luce Memorial Chapel (路思义教堂) instead! Wow… what an amazing building! We just love this place a lot! It was a place where you can have picnic or just simply relax by sitting on the grass (definitely not during summer, perhaps during spring?).

Tips: You can take Bus No. 300/305/306 and get down at 荣忠东海大学 station. This station is just in front of the main entrance of Tunghai University.

Before we left the university, we dropped by a shop which sells fresh milk and milk ice cream (TWD42). The fresh milk was directly from the cow farm situated inside the campus. That was the reason why the milk was so fresh! The ice cream was not bad but we were expecting a stronger milk taste.

Miyahara (宮原眼科), another ice cream place to check out in Taichung. We did not expect such a long queue in the morning!!!

There were so many flavors and we wanted to each and every one of them. As you all know, Taiwan is famous for their mango and tea. We decided to get the triple scoop cup of Uganda 80% Smoked Chocolate, Mango and a Tea flavor with toppings of cheesecakes (original and chocolate) and native pineapple cake at TWD240. These 2 toppings were actually one of the top selling products and their taste was really yummy. The ice cream was really delicious until you would notice that they only use 100% fresh ingredients with little additives. We would strongly recommend choosing the original cheesecake as the topping if you go for the cup.

Don’t forget to check out their retail area! Their grand and classy interior design will definitely impress you. Every product sold there was packed with a certain theme and could act as a wonderful gift. The packing was so nice that I doubt you would want to unpack it. It can be easily displayed at any corner of your house as a decorative item. No doubt that the taste of their products were as nice as their display especially their cheesecake and pineapple cake!

Miyahara (宮原眼科)
Address: No. 20, Zhongshan Road, Central district, Taichung City. (台中市中區中山路20號)
Operating hours: 10.00am - 10.00pm (Daily)

Since Sun Biscuit is from Taichung, we then walked to the “Sun Biscuit” Street (Section 2, Ziyou road, Taichung (自由路二段) to get some sun biscuit as souvenirs. The reason it was called Sun Biscuit Street is because there were 5 to 6 shops selling Sun Biscuit along the street. You do not need to worry which shop to buy from. Just walk into any of the shops and taste their samples. None of the shops will actually force you to buy something. In fact, they were very friendly and generous enough to serve you a quarter piece of the sun biscuit for tasting.

On the way to Taichung Bus Station, we stopped by the hotel to collect our luggage (the advantage of staying nearby the bus station is we avoided carrying the luggage everywhere we went). There were a few bus operators offering the same route to Taipei City. Since we took Kuokuang Bus (國光客運) to Taichung, we decided to try a different bus operator, Ubus (統聯客運), back to Taipei. Both bus operators offered the same fare of TWD220 per person per journey.

Even though our stomach was full with sun biscuit, we still bought one set of Railway Bento to share. This is one of the must try items.

The bento filled with a big piece of pork chop, fish, egg and vegetables only cost us TWD80. The portion was quite big and the taste was yummy. Another highlight was that Taiwanese rice is like a mix of glutinous and Japanese rice.

After checking in at Main Inn Taipei which is Exit Y13 from Taipei Main Station, we went to check out Shida Night Market (师大夜市). We heard that it was no longer there but luckily we managed to find it. Let’s start eating!!! We noticed the foods here were quite popular as there were long queues at most of the shops.

Lu Wei is always our favorite food! You can choose whatever ingredients that you like.

Deng Long Lu Wei (灯笼卤味)
Address: No. 52, Longquan Street, Da’an District, Taipei City. (台北市大安區龍泉街52號)
Operating hours: 4.00am - 2.30am

The best Taiwanese salted fried chicken we ever had! Must try it!

Shi Yun Taiwanese Fried Chicken (师園盐酥鸡)
Address: No. 14, Shida Road, Lane 39, Da’an District, Taipei City. (台北市大安區師大路39巷14號)
Operating hours: 12.00pm – 1.00am (Daily)

This pan fried bun is really famous in Shida Night Market. Be careful not to burn your tongue as the bun was really juicy!

Hsu Ji (许记生煎包)
Address: Next to Shi Yun Taiwanese Fried Chicken
Operating hours: 3.30pm – 11.30pm

We were heading to our next night market of the day. Haha! Ambitious right? We actually did made it though. Let’s check out our food experience in Ningxia Night Market here.
