Apart from trying the new or popular foods in Singapore, we are always scratching our heads for places to visit. In our recent trip to Singapore, we were glad that we found some fun surprises around Marina Bay and they are all impressive regardless whether it is in the day or at night. Most importantly, there are NO ADMISSION FEES!
#1 Visit the lotus-shaped ArtScience Museum
This was a random visit as we were wandering around the Marina Bay Sands looking for places to visit. Amazingly, the ArtScience Museum has many interactive activities allowing visitors to discover the art, science and technology in an amusing way. We took part on the free exhibition, Into the Wild: An Immersive Virtual Adventure whereby each of us was given a mobile device to go on a virtual journey as a ranger trying to save the wildlife and rain forest from illegal poachers. To us, it isn’t only a fun digital escapade but it is also an awareness campaign to educate people about what the wildlife and rain forests are currently facing. If you have more time, you can also try their other exhibitions such as the Future World: Where Art Meets Science, Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes and others (these are the available exhibitions during the time of writing). However, there are admission fees for some of them. From what we observed, there are special prices if you are visiting as a family.
#2 Enjoy the breathtaking view of Singapore's skyscrapers
At the promenade connecting Marina Bay Sands and ArtScience Museum, there is a spacious outdoor area with concrete seating along the pond filled with lotus flowers. Besides being a good place to rest, it also acts as a place to enjoy the wonderful view of Singapore’s skyscrapers. From here, you can even look at the magnificent Marina Bay Sands from up close.
#3 Watch the spectacular light and water show
Every night, there is 15 minutes of light and water show in front of Marina Bay Sands with great music. You will be immersed with the virtual story produced by the sound and light effects which will definitely excite you. To get the best view of this show, try to secure a space between the Queen Elizabeth Walk and the Merlion Park. In our recent visit, this light and water show was cancelled in conjunction with the rehearsal for Singapore’s National Day. In exchange, we got to witness the fantastic fireworks show instead. Check out their website here for its daily schedule!
#4 Relish the stunning night view of Esplanade - Theaters on the Bay

The Esplanade may look normal in the day but it turns astonishing as the sun sets. With its design looking like a durian, the structural lines of the building shine grandly at night. Taking a peek inside the building, this is where the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and other local, regional and international music artists perform regularly. Of course, most of the shows performed here require admission fees but there are also some workshops, activities and performances which are free. Just check out their official website for the detailed schedules.
#5 Snap some photos with the iconic Merlion

Who doesn’t know about the famous Merlion of Singapore? With the head of a lion and the body of a fish, this statue has been representing Singapore for decades. This is definitely one of the top free attractions in Singapore where you can take all the photos you want. Regardless of whether it is day or night, each has its own beauty worthy of being appreciated. There is also a spacious area allowing visitors to chill and relish the view of Marina Bay Sands across the river. Additionally, this is also one of the places where you can look at the Singapore’s skyscrapers especially the iconic Marina Bay Sands glowing in the dark (at night)!
#6 Visit the awe-inspiring Gardens by the Bay

One of the must visit place in Singapore nowadays is definitely the Gardens by the Bay. The park consists of 3 waterfront gardens but most people tend to visit only the largest garden which is the Bay South Garden. Who wouldn’t do so since the largest garden has the most attractions. Within the Bay South Garden are the popular Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. The former is a cool-dry conservatory whereas the latter is a cool-moist conservatory. Admission fees are charged for both of it and it is usually cheaper if you purchase the tickets for both. During certain seasons, the conservatories might also have special exhibitions such as cherry blossom, sunflowers, etc. Besides the conservatories, you can also visit the iconic Supertree Grove with tree-like vertical gardens measuring 25 to 50 metres tall for free. At night, these beautiful vertical gardens come to life with its mesmerizing light and sound show. Check out their official website for more information.

To conclude, we noticed that there are many attractions around Marina Bay worth visiting during both the day and night. Nonetheless, the spending can range from free to luxury depending on your budget and preference. In fact, we were impressed with the exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum because it totally changed our mind that museums tend to be boring. Having said so, we still have a little item in our Singapore wish list which we hope to achieve in the coming years. What do you think it is? It is none other than staying at the Marina Bay Sands while relaxing in the infinity pool and enjoying the awesome views from the top! This might probably be the dream of many people? Who knows?
