Jamie’s Italian Restaurants @ William Street, Perth

You might have probably heard of Jamie Oliver if you watch cooking programs on TV or wander around the culinary section of bookstores where you could easily find his books. He is one of the talented and famous celebrity chefs that many people would know. Sometimes, we do watch his cooking shows but never did we think that we would have the chance to dine at his restaurant. At the time of writing, his restaurant known as Jamie’s Italian is opened in more than 20 countries around the world.

While planning for our Perth itinerary, we found out that Jamie’s Italian is available in Perth City. Until the very last day of our vacation, we still couldn’t decide on whether to dine there or to go for something cheaper. In the end, we decided to ditch our “budget meal” and just dine at this fantastic restaurant. Let’s just treat this wonderful meal as our reward after 6 days of travelling 😆. This dining experience is definitely something new for us as how often can we dine at a celebrity chef’s restaurant?

The Jamie’s Italian in Perth is located right in the middle of the city and it can be easily spotted. Why is that so? The big “J” hanging at the side of the restaurant told us that we are here!

Founded by a celebrity chef and his Italian mentor, you may probably think that Jamie’s Italian is definitely a fine dining restaurant or at least a premium restaurant. Much to our surprise, Jamie’s Italian is designed to be affordable with a fantastic environment ensuring that every customer feels welcomed and comfortable. In addition, every restaurant is designed by incorporating the history of the building or city of its location.

Flipping through the menu for a “second time” (we have gone through the menu from their website earlier), the price ranges between AUD23 to AUD40 for a meal such as pasta, pizza or main dish with most of them being less than AUD30. Fortunately for us, there was this Super Lunch Deal which enabled us to order one of our main dishes at only AUD20 (cheaper by about AUD6 to AUD8). Furthermore, the portion of the lunch deal is exactly the same as what you could order from the menu (some restaurants serve smaller portion of food for special deals).

One of Jamie Oliver’s famous dish is the porchetta. Since we were here, how could we miss out on this dish? And for some reason, we were also craving for porchettas. With only a short wait, the Slow-roasted Porchetta was served on our table.

The roast pork stuffed with herbs sits in the center of the plate surrounded by mushroom gravy with some mushroom cubes. The skin of the roast pork is crispy and isn’t too hard while the meat texture is tender and juicy. Most importantly, we didn’t even need to chew the roast pork much as it just melted in our mouth! This is definitely the best porchetta that we have ever eaten regardless of the price.

Since the pizzas and other foods were not attractive to us (also not forgetting that Mr. J is a pasta lover), we ordered 2 plates of pasta to accompany the porchetta. The first pasta is Gennaro’s Tagliatelle Bolognese. Since Gennaro is Jamie Oliver’s mentor, we were guessing that this pasta would be good. For the second pasta, we wanted to try something different and decided to go for the Spicy Sausage Pappardelle.

Their pastas are freshly made and this was our first time tasting this kind of texture. Obviously, the texture of freshly made pastas differs from the instant pastas sold in the supermarkets. For both pastas which we ordered, the portions are just nice and the ingredients are well-balanced (not too much meat nor pasta).

These 3 main meals were enough to fill up our tummy without the help of any appetizers or desserts. Overall, we had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant which has a nice concept and fantastic ambiance. The quality of the food is great and not forgetting the excellent services of the waiters and waitresses who are very attentive and friendly. In terms of its price, it is similar to what you will pay at the cafés in Perth. It is definitely worth the price since you will be eating foods that a celebrity chef usually cooks in his cooking shows. Since Australia’s Jamie Italian isn’t the closest restaurant to Malaysia (there are a 2 in Singapore and 1 in Thailand), we will probably visit these which are closer to us in the future. However, we will be trying different foods since the menu differs from one restaurant to another.

Tips: A merchant fee of 1.25% from the total price will be charged if you are paying the bill using a credit card.
