Margaret River Bakery is something that you definitely cannot miss if you are traveling southbound from Perth. Well, it might be a little difficult searching for its signboard but they are actually located at the start of the busiest street of Margaret River. In fact, you can hardly miss it as you drive into the town coming from the north.
The interior of this bakery is more like a café but it isn’t like the usual typical cafés with nice, simple and modern theme. Margaret River Bakery gives a rustic and cozy feeling of a bakery café filled with antique and mismatched furniture. The wall outside of the bakery is decorated with colorful crockery of different shapes and sizes.
As we stepped into the bakery, we were impressed by the way the foods are being displayed. Margaret River Bakery offers a huge variety of food choices such as pastries, sandwiches, pies, desserts, coffees, etc. We spent quite some time looking at the menu and displayed foods figuring out what to order. Everything here is just too attractive especially the sandwiches. How we wished that our little “bird” stomachs were able to take in all these delicious looking foods.
We were there slightly before 12.30pm and the lunch crowd wasn’t here yet. As we took our sweet time deciding on what to order, the bakery’s door swung open and we were quickly pressured to place our order by the incoming crowd. Luckily, the staff is very friendly and kind enough to recommend us the beef meat pie and mushroom quiche.
Of course, we have also done some homework prior to this trip. Most of the locals suggested trying the savory herb french toast with bacon & Parmesan cheese.

The French toast isn’t too bad with crispy edges. Sandwiched between the toast are a nicely melted cheese and a thick slice of bacon. Nevertheless, the mushroom quiche is still the yummiest and most outstanding among these items. This quiche is also by far the best quiche that we have ever eaten and we don’t think there is any bakery or café in Malaysia that can outshine this. The mushroom quiche is rich in egg but not too salty as the mushrooms make it more flavorful. We just love it so much.

As for the beef meat pie, it is a layered puff pastry filled with beef fillings in dark brown gravy. The meat isn’t minced as we could still chew on the pieces of meat. However, the filling is a little salty to our liking. We will strongly recommend eating it while it is still hot. Anyway, meat pie is one of the must try food in Australia as this is what they are famous for (besides kangaroos and koalas).

Note: We couldn't recall the price of the savory herb french toast with bacon & Parmesan cheese and the beef meat pie but these 2 foods total up to AUD 11.
Not too sure whether we weren’t feeling hungry or is it because of the tiredness from the 4-hours-drive right after the overnight flight as these 3 foods were sufficient as our lunch. But, the dessert bar is just too attractive and we just couldn’t get away from it. In the end, we ordered a piece of raspberry cheesecake with a thin layer of white chocolate and pistachio.
Raspberry Cheesecake (AUD 5.50) |
It is simply marvelous and we loved it so much. The cake isn’t too sweet as the sweetness of the white chocolate is balanced by the raspberry.
However, it wasn’t a perfect ending because we forgot to order any beverages or coffee. It was too late to order more foods and drinks since the bakery is getting crowded with limited vacant seats. We didn’t feel good occupying a space for too long while the other customers are waiting to get a seat. Hence, we decided to just move on to the next item in our itinerary.
In short, Margaret River Bakery is definitely a must visit place when you are in Margaret River. Besides tourists like us stopping by for foods, it is also a lovely bakery where the locals will visit to fill up their stomachs. Not to forget, we also spotted Margaret River Bakery at Margaret River Farmers Market. At their stall in the farmers market, we bought a bacon, egg, avocado, hollandaise croissant as our breakfast as well as a sourdough to fill up our tummy throughout the road trip.
