Transportation Guides between City and Airport in Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki

The transportation mode between the city and airport will usually be the last item for travelers to research on. Travelling in the European countries no matter the eastern, western, northern or southern region, they are all equally expensive. If you guys are budget travelers like us, then you should definitely check out the below transportation options and fares between the city and airport for the 3 cities (Oslo - Norway, Stockholm - Sweden and Helsinki - Finland) that we recently visited.



The options below are in the order of cheap to expensive. For Oslo and Helsinki, we took the cheapest and most convenient way to get to both the city and airport. As for Stockholm, we chose to pay more by taking the airport bus after considering the longer travelling time of the other options. We hope that the below will be helpful to you to avoid any hassle or unhappy experience during your journey! 

#1 Oslo, Norway 


|Option 1: Nettbuss – Shuttle Gardermoen OSL 
Bus fare: NOK70 (one way) - Up to 4 children under 16 travel for free when accompanied by an adult. 
Journey duration: 22 minutes
Bus frequency: 15-30 minutes (subject to hotels, weekends or weekdays)

|Option 2: NSB Train
Train fare: NOK93 (one way) 
Journey duration: 23 minutes 
Train frequency: 30 minutes 
Route: Oslo S - Oslo Lufthavn 

|Option 3: NOR-WAY Bussekspress 
Bus fare: NOK150 (one way) 
Journey duration: 50 minutes
Bus frequency: 30 minutes 
Route: Oslo Bussterminal - Oslo Lufthavn 
Note: 2 pieces of luggage (maximum 30kg in total) is allowed per person; Hand luggage is allowed as long as it can fit under the seat. 

|Option 4: Flybussen 
Bus fare: NOK160 (one way) 
Journey duration: 50 minutes 
Bus frequency: 20 minutes; 10 minutes during peak hour 
Route: Oslo Bussterminal - Oslo Lufthavn 

|Option 5: FLYTOGET Airport Express 
Train fare: NOK 180 (one way) 
Journey duration: 22 minutes
Train frequency: 20 minutes; 10 minutes during peak hour 
Route: Oslo S - Oslo Lufthavn 
Notes: Ticket fare of NOK95 (half price) is only entitled for seniors citizens above the age of 67; youth from age 16-20 and students from age 21-31 with valid ID presented. 

Note: Oslo Bussterminal = Oslo Bus Terminal, Oslo S = Oslo Central Station, Oslo Lufthavn = Oslo Airport, Gardermoen

#2 Stockholm, Sweden 

|Option 1: Flygbussarna Airport Coaches 
Bus fare: SEK119 (normal); SEK99 (online) – Adult (one way)
Journey duration: 45 minutes 
Bus frequency: Every 10 minutes; Earliest bus departs at 3.45am from Stockholm 
Route: Stockholm City (Cityterminalen) - Arlanda Airport T2-5 
Notes:
1. Departs from Gate 3 of Cityterminalen (Stockholm Central Station).
2. Arrive 10 minutes before the departure time.
3. 1 hand carry per traveler is allowed on board the coach.
4. Foods and drinks are not allowed on the coach.

|Option 2: Commuter Train and Bus 
Ticket fare: Included in SL Card – 72 hours 
Journey duration: 1 hour 20 minutes 
Route: Train (Gamla Stan - T-Centralen) >> Commuter train J36 towards Marsta (Black Line) >> Bus 583 towards Arlanda. (Bus station is just in front of the train station) 
Departure time: 
Earliest train: 5.05am from Slussen 
Earliest commuter train: 4.20am from Marsta 
Earliest bus: 4.47am from Marsta (every 15 minutes) – 15 minutes to the airport

|Option 3: Commuter Train
Train fare: With SL ticket, supplementary fee of SEK120 is charged for all ages. 
Journey duration: 50 minutes
Route: Train (Gamla Stan - T-Centralen) >> Commuter train 38 towards Uppsala C (Black Line) 
Departure time: 
Earliest train: 5.05am from Slussen 
Earliest commuter Train: 4.09am from Stockholm

|Option 4: Arlanda Express Train
Train fare: Adult - SEK280; Youth (8-25 years old) - SEK150 (One way) 
Journey duration: 20 minutes 
Train frequency: Every 15 minutes; Earliest express train departs at 6.05am from Stockholm Central Station 
Getting to Stockholm Central Station: Train (Gamla Stan - T-Centralen)

1. Early booking - 45% discount if booked 90 days in advance (online only): SEK154 (one way)

3. Arlanda Express is connected to Track 1 and 2 of Stockholm Central Station 

#3 Helsinki, Finland 

|Option 1: I-Train or P-Train (Ring Rail Line) 
Train fare: EUR5 (one way)
Journey: 27 minutes via I-train / 32 minutes via P-train 
Train frequency: Every 10 minutes from Monday - Saturday
Routes: Helsinki Central Station - Airport 

|Option 2: HSL Bus 615 
Bus fare: EUR5 (one way)
Journey: 45 minutes 
Bus frequency: Every 30 minutes daily 
Routes: Helsinki Central Station (Platform 7) - Airport 

|Option 3: FINNAIR City Bus
Bus fare: EUR6.60 (one way)
Journey: 30 minutes
Bus frequency: Every 20-30 minutes daily 
Route: Eliel Square *Platform 30 (Next to Helsinki Central Station) - HEL Airport 

Hope the above information is helpful for your itinerary planning. You might have notice that we did not consider taxi as one of the transportation mode because the public transportation in the Scandinavian countries is convenient and efficient. Taking the taxi will definitely cost more and will not be worthy unless you are rushing!
